We are looking for a Chief Officer to join our Offshore team at Bibby Marine – You will act as a senior navigator and DP watchkeeper where you’ll be second in command and the head of the desk department on a modern vessel. You’ll be the ships security officer, undertaking emergency response duties as required and will work with supportive onshore teams and operate in a company that values professional standard, safety and long-term growth.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to the Master for aspects of safety management on board. Some tasks may be delegated to other ranks, but overall responsibility will remain with the Chief Officer.
  • Ensure the security of confidential material with the Master.
  • Ensure that all personnel working within the deck department (including contractors) are competent to conduct their duties safely and efficiently, through induction, instruction and training; appropriate refreshing of knowledge and communication of new legislation, procedures, guidance or best practice.
  • Assist Master to ensure compliance with charterer reporting requirements.
  • Understudy Master to enable promotion when appropriate. / Understudy and act as second in command to the Master. Deputise for the Master when necessary.
  • Establish and maintain vessel security by ensuring that only bona fide visitors are permitted on board.
  • Manage, supervise and continually develop the competence of personnel within the deck department. When circumstances permit, Junior Officers who are considered suitable for promotion should be given the opportunity to practice under supervision the roles and responsibilities of the Senior Officers.
  • Implement safety policies and practices within the Deck department.
  • Control ballasting and de-ballasting of vessel and control the domestic water consumption and storage, including ensuring that testing of potable water is conducted.
  • In dry-dock, be responsible for bottom plugs removal, safe keeping and ensuring proper refitting. Be responsible for ensuring that proper docking and undocking conditions of stability and stress are adhered to.
  • Act as designated first aiders on-board a ship and provide medical care to the sick and injured while they remain on board and also participate in co-ordinated schemes for medical assistance to ships, if required.

Key Requirements:

  • STCW REG A-II/2 (Chief Mate Unlimited) Certificate of Competency. At least one years’ DP2 vessel experience in a senior DPO position as Chief Officer, or suitable experience within the Company.  Valid Flag State Certificate of Competency and appropriate seagoing service for position held.
  • Valid ENG1 (medical fitness certificate) or accepted equivalent
  • Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-1)
  • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-2)
  • Elementary First Aid (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-3)
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-4)
  • Proficiency as Ship Security Officer (STCW Code – Table VI/5)
  • Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW A6/3)
  • Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boat (other than fast rescue boat) (PSC & RB)- (STCW A-VI/2)
  • Proficiency in Medical Care (STCW Code – Table A-VI/4-2)
  • Proficiency Medical first aid – (STCW A-VI/4-1)
