Chevron Nigeria Limited needed to accommodate a large number of workers during the construction of a new Liquified Natural Gas facility in Escravos. With limited land-based accommodation available, and a volatile project environment, Bibby Progress provided them with a secure facility to house up to 900 workers of different nationalities on their work site.

The facility focused on transforming natural gas into clean fuels using Gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology that produces clean-burning diesel fuel, liquid petroleum gas and naphtha from natural gas. Natural gas is better for the environment, cleaner, has many sources of energy and within the oil and gas industry, is simpler to transport (in its liquid form).

The facility is designed to convert 325 million cubic feet of natural gas per day into 33,000 barrels of liquids (mainly synthetic diesel). It supplies clean-burning, reduced emission, low-sulfur diesel fuel for vehicles like cars and trucks.

Initially Chevron asked for Bibby Progress for six months in 2007, they quickly realised the benefits of Bibby and continued to charter our barge for an extra 3 and a half years.

“We have been very happy with the service we have received from Bibby Maritime – getting the barge chartered, outfitted to meet our requirements, and to Escravos”
